Orthodoxy is one of the world’s
religions. About 225 million people belong to this religion and of course it
greatly influences the life of many people.Due to the fact that this religion is widespread all over the world
there are various discrepancies in its essence. Unfortunately Orthodoxy is not
as united as many people would like it to be. As a matter of fact, Eastern
Orthodoxy and Western Orthodoxy have different approaches to various aspects of
people’s life. It especially concerns such notions as sin and salvation. Thus,
for example, Western Orthodoxy treats sin as a crime, a violation of a law.

Jesus
Christ and Mohammed are two outstanding figures in the world culture. They are
the founders of two world religions: Christianity and Islam correspondingly. Both
of them are worshiped in their own faiths and both of them are treated in a
different way by their religions. Nevertheless the significance of these
figures and the importance of their actions cannot be overestimated.
Jesus
Christ is the central figure of Christianity. He is the messiah predicted in
the Old Testament. The principal sources that contain information about his life
are considered to be the four Gospels. His birth became the realization of the
prophecy about the Messiah. Jesus was born after the Immaculate Conception by
the Virgin Mary. He was born in the town of Bethlehem. There is not much
information about his life up to the age of thirty. At this age he was baptized
by John the Baptist; then Jesus left for the desert for forty days and after
that started his service and began to deliver his sermons. Jesus Christ proved
his teaching by various miracles, so he was renowned for being a prophet and a
healer, in spite of the fact that he claimed himself to be the Son of God. His
last days are known as the Passion of Christ. He was betrayed, imprisoned, tortured
and at last crucified. Three days later he rose from the dead and ascended into
Heaven. Jesus Christ was born approximately in the beginning of the 1 century
AD and died in the 30th.
